Pairing Wall Colors with your New Floors!
So, you have the flooring that you’ve always wanted installed. Now the key remains to pair it with the perfect wall color. At Flooring Liquidators, we care not only about flooring, but also care about the complete look and feel of your new space.
Now let’s talk about the actual pairing of the wall colors themselves to your new floors.
Color Schemes
Believe it or not, colors come in two temperatures – Warm and Cool. Warm colors, like the sun, include reds, oranges and yellows. Warm also add a bit of boldness or loudness. So we must be careful not to paint a whole room RED – that is known to result in headaches! Cool colors include blues, greens and all shades of grey. They can create a more passive and calming effect.
Pairing complementary shades and tones is a crucial aspect to balancing out the room and setting the atmosphere. Let’s say you have engineered hardwood flooring with a light finish, you may favor wall colors in the gray, taupe, white, and cream section.
Opposites Attract
A rule of thumb for pairing is to look at the color wheel and match floor color with opposite wall color. For example, according to the “Martian Color Wheel”, if you had dark cyan tile, pairing that with a red or orange wall would be both appealing and interesting to the eye. On that same note, if you have dark brown hardwood flooring, a dark sea green wall would match well.
However, the color wheel does not have the final say in the matter. Let your creativity kick in!
For a Modern Touch
Many modern homeowners choose the addition of an accent wall. An accent wall is a wall whose design differs from the design of the other walls in the room. The accent wall’s color can simply be a different shade of the color of the other walls, or have a completely different design in terms of the color and material. Especially with hardwood floors, an accent wall helps to highlight a featured color without overpowering the entire space.
