With the bright spring weather comes a chance to get our homes clean and organized. There’s just something about this time of year that gets us noticing clutter, dust, and stains. So, if you’re rolling up your sleeves this Spring, don’t forget the floors!

Our floors get so much traffic throughout the year, that they deserve some TLC. So, whether you have tiles, wooden floors, laminate, or waterproof vinyl, tackling common stains and spills is essential to maintaining their beauty and longevity. At Flooring Liquidators, we understand the importance of keeping your floors pristine, which is why we’ve compiled a guide to spring cleaning solutions for all types of flooring.

Dealing with Common Stains

  1. Floor and Wall Tiles

The stains: Grime, soap scum, and mildew can accumulate on tiles, particularly in bathrooms, dulling their shine and detracting from their beauty. Wall tiles in kitchens are especially hard to keep clean thanks to food splashes.

The solution: Create a paste using equal parts baking soda and water. Apply the paste to the stained areas and scrub gently with a soft brush or sponge. For stubborn stains, add a splash of white vinegar to the mixture for extra cleaning power. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry with a clean cloth.

  1. Wooden Floors

The stains: Watermarks, pet stains, and food spills can stain the surface of wooden floors, leaving unsightly marks.

The solution: Mix equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Lightly mist the stained area and let it sit for a few minutes to loosen the stain. Gently scrub the area with a soft cloth or sponge, working in the direction of the wood grain. For tougher stains, sprinkle a small amount of baking soda onto the affected area before scrubbing. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.

  1. Laminate Floors

The stains: Grease, oil, and footprints can leave laminate floors looking dull and dirty.

The solution: Combine a few drops of dish soap with warm water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution onto the stained area and let it sit for a few minutes to penetrate the dirt. Use a soft-bristled brush or microfiber cloth to gently scrub the stain, being careful not to scratch the laminate surface. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry with a towel.

  1. Waterproof Vinyl Floors

The stains: Spills, mud, and scuff marks can detract from the beauty of waterproof vinyl flooring.

The solution: Mix a small amount of mild dish soap with warm water in a bucket. Dip a soft mop or sponge into the soapy solution and wring out any excess water. Gently mop the stained area, working in circular motions to lift dirt and grime. For stubborn stains, add a splash of white vinegar to the cleaning solution. Rinse the floor with clean water and dry it with a towel.
